The Cyber Defense Center Product Certification Program provides an independent framework for evaluating, validating, and recognizing cybersecurity products based on demonstrated defensive capability, operational maturity, and real world application.
Unlike traditional vendor certifications that focus on product knowledge or implementation, Product Certifications evaluate how effectively technologies contribute to measurable cyber defense outcomes. Certifications are informed by independent research, capability modeling, operational testing, maturity assessment, and consequence informed engineering practices.

How to Get Started
The Cyber Defense Center Product Certification Program is designed to be collaborative, transparent, and tailored to each product's capabilities and intended certification level. Our team works directly with product developers and technical leadership to establish the appropriate evaluation scope, testing objectives, and certification pathway.
Step 1 — Contact the Cyber Defense Center
Begin by submitting an inquiry to discuss your product, certification objectives, desired certification level, and security discipline. Our team will schedule an introductory meeting to explain the certification process and answer any questions.
Step 2 — Define the Certification Scope
Working together, we identify the product, supported capabilities, deployment model, target customers, and desired certification level (Capable™, Effective™, Trusted™, or Distinguished™). Evaluation criteria, timelines, and testing requirements are established before certification begins.
Step 3 — Submit Your Product
Provide the Cyber Defense Center with the software, documentation, licensing, and supporting technical materials required for evaluation. Our research team performs capability mapping, functional validation, and independent testing based on the selected certification level.
Step 4 — Independent Evaluation
Products undergo independent assessment using the Cyber Defense Center's research-driven certification methodology. Evaluations may include capability validation, architecture review, operational testing, documentation assessment, integration analysis, and performance verification.
Step 5 — Operational Validation (Trusted™ and Distinguished™)
For Trusted™ and Distinguished™ certifications, vendors identify a small number of customer organizations currently operating the product in production. With customer participation and approval, the Cyber Defense Center conducts operational assessments to validate real-world performance, reliability, deployment maturity, and customer outcomes.
Step 6 — Certification Decision
Following completion of the evaluation, the Cyber Defense Center issues a detailed certification report documenting findings, strengths, opportunities for improvement, and the final certification determination.
Step 7 — Recognition and Promotion
Certified products receive official Cyber Defense Center certification badges, digital credentials, marketing assets, and recognition within the Cyber Defense Center Product Directory. Vendors may display their certification status in accordance with the program's branding and usage guidelines.
